Dumpster Rental in Commerce City

Rose Hill, Adams City and Derby in the south, Reunion in the north, and the refinery corridor in between.

Commerce City began as Commerce Town in 1952, when residents of Rose Hill and southern Adams City voted 251 to 24 to incorporate; in 1962 it annexed part of Derby, became a city and took its present name. That historic south end, where Derby was laid out in 1889 and Adams City in 1903, is where the older homes are, and the Civic Center on East 60th Avenue is about 4 miles from our yard.

North of there the city has grown fast: about 72,000 people in 2025, up from 62,418 in 2020, with 69 percent of its homes built since 2000, many of them in big subdivisions like Reunion, built from 2001 on former farmland. Those mean move-ins, landscaping and remodels, while the refinery and industrial corridor along Brighton Boulevard and I-270 means commercial and industrial roll-offs. A call before noon usually gets a same-day drop.

Do I need a permit in Commerce City?

Commerce City’s code says it directly for work in its streets: “Trash dumpsters and storage or construction trailers shall not be placed in the street without specific approval of the director” (§ 10-1302), and § 12-6001 makes it unlawful to obstruct a street or sidewalk the public uses. The City publishes no permit written for a roll-off, no fee and no placement conditions, so before any street placement we call Public Works permitting (8602 Rosemary Street, 303-289-8150) rather than guess which permit applies. On your own driveway or lot it is simpler: the City’s mobile storage container rules (Land Development Code § 21-5350) expressly exclude roll-off trash collection containers. Household trash is a citywide contract with Republic Services, and residents can schedule one bulk pickup a quarter free ($21.75 for each extra one); for a full remodel or clean-out, a container is usually simpler. Demolition of a building, or of a building’s interior, needs a City permit through Building Safety (303-289-3790).

FAQ

Commerce City dumpster rental questions

  • Is a permit needed for a dumpster in Commerce City?
Commerce City code § 10-1302: trash dumpsters “shall not be placed in the street without specific approval of the director.” No roll-off permit or fee is published, so we call Public Works (303-289-8150) before any street placement. On your driveway, the City’s storage-container rules exclude roll-offs.
  • How fast can you deliver in Commerce City?
Usually the same day when you call before noon. The Civic Center is about 4 miles from our yard; the north end around Reunion is farther out, up Tower Road or E-470, so call early there.
  • Can the dumpster go on my street in the old south end?
Only with the director’s specific approval under § 10-1302, and the City publishes no roll-off permit, so we call Public Works first. Most jobs on the older lots fit a 10 or 15-yard on the driveway instead.
  • We run a business on the Brighton Boulevard corridor. Do you do commercial roll-offs?
Yes. We set up commercial and industrial roll-offs on your own lot and swap them as the work needs; see our commercial dumpster rental page.
